D400-144 Cable Drums are used on most residential size garage doors with torsion spring assemblies. One pair of drums can support a total door weight of 750 lbs (375 lb each). These drums accept 5/32″ cable diameters.
These drums are sold in pairs with a right and left side mount. The right side drum is painted red and the left side drum is painted black. On standard lift doors the right hand drum (red) is located on the left side (inside looking out). The left hand drum (black) is located on the right side (ISLO).
Garage door cable drums are found on the ends of the torsion shaft and look like metal wheels or hubs. Cable drums help the garage door remain balanced and level as cables wrap around the drums. Residential and light commercial garage doors use drums with a four-inch diameter, while heavier doors use five-inch drums. Garage door cable drums are most commonly made from cast aluminum.
